    This 6-Step System Helped Our Client Land (After 18 Months Of No Offers): Context: Our client landed a role in healthcare after being unemployed for 18+ months. They kept hitting dead ends, often making it to final rounds, but never getting the offer. They were craving meaningful work to cap their career, but felt unsure how to network or stand out. We teamed up with them and things started to shift: 1. They Rebuilt Their Resume & LinkedIn The first step was tightening their materials. They revised job titles to better reflect change management experience and aligned their profile headline and About section for clarity. They also ensured consistency in bullets, visuals, and keywords to boost discoverability and credibility. 2. They Identified Strategic Contacts Next, they built a list of target companies and filtered for people who: – Had the same target roles   – Had recently transitioned roles (less than 1–2 years in)   – Worked in areas where project + change management overlap  These individuals were more likely to relate and respond. 3. They Used the “Advice Triangle” Instead of generic coffee chat asks, they used the “Advice Triangle”: – Congratulated the contact on their transition   – Noted interest in how they made the pivot   – Asked thoughtful questions about the company culture and role  This built rapport without asking for favors upfront. 4. They Verified Emails With Mailscoop.io LinkedIn messages can go unread. So they used Mailscoop to find professional emails and verify them using tools like Email Checker. This increased open rates and helped them break through the noise. 5. They Sent Value-Add Thank Yous After interviews, they sent detailed thank-you notes.     Career transitions aren't about finding a new train track to ride to career advancement—they're about mastering the rock climb. Here's the framework I use with clients to help them pivot successfully: Step 1: Identify Your True Pain Point Before making any move, ask yourself: Is it your boss you dislike or the actual work? Is it the industry or just your company culture? One client was ready to leave her entire field until we discovered she only needed an internal transfer away from a toxic boss—saving months of job searching while keeping her seniority. Step 2: Apply the W.I.S.E. Framework Don't jump straight to job applications. First, analyze: Workplace needs: What motivates you at work? Industries: Which sectors will you thrive in? Skills/Roles: What work uses your skills/strengths? Experience: What experience can you leverage in your transition? Step 3: Become the Entrepreneur of Your Career The ultimate goal? Complete ownership of your professional destiny. This mindset shift is everything. Your experience is your product, and you must position it differently for different opportunities. Feeling stuck?     The key to identifying and highlighting transferable skills from a career break is simple: stop thinking of work as the only place where valuable skills are built. Every experience—whether it’s caregiving, studying, traveling, or even healing—teaches us something. The trick is learning how to translate those lessons into professional strengths. Instead of focusing on where you were, focus on what you did during that time. Ask yourself: • Did I manage a household? That’s leadership, budgeting, conflict resolution. • Did I care for a family member? That’s emotional intelligence, resilience, crisis management. • Did I go back to school? That’s adaptability, learning agility, and critical thinking. • Did I travel or take a sabbatical? That’s cultural intelligence, problem-solving, and networking. • Did I recover from burnout or focus on mental health? That’s self-awareness, stress management, and a deeper understanding of workplace well-being—an increasingly valuable skill. The bottom line? A career break isn’t a gap. It’s an experience. And when framed right, it’s an asset.

    Thinking of switching industries or careers?🤷♀️ Pause before you polish that resume. Most people start a career pivot by updating their LinkedIn headline. But the truth is — the real work starts with looking inward. When I speak to professionals in the middle of a transition, I always ask them: Do you know exactly what you’re looking for? Or are you running away from what you don’t want? Here’s how I recommend you approach it: 1) Reflect on your “work happiness formula” * What type of projects make you lose track of time? * Do you prefer building things from scratch or optimising existing systems? * Do you like structured tasks or problem-solving in chaos? 2) Define your non-negotiables -Salary range, work-life balance, growth opportunities, flexibility, values. -Remember: Non-negotiables are boundaries, not wish lists. 3)Understand your ideal environment -Start-up hustle or corporate structure? -Remote independence or in-office collaboration? -Fast-paced change or steady, predictable work? 4)Bridge the skill gap -Identify what’s transferable from your current role. -Pick 1-2 high-impact skills the new industry values and invest in them first. 5) Talk to people, not just job portals -Have informational interviews with folks in your target industry. -Ask them what surprised them most after joining — the answers are gold. A career pivot is less about starting over and more about realigning your career with who you are now — your skills, your values, and your goals.     Making a career change? Your resume needs a different strategy. A traditional resume approach will not be enough if you are pivoting to a new role or industry. You need to connect the dots for the employer — clearly, strategically, and intentionally. No hiring manager is going to guess how your experience fits. You must show them. Here are 3 strategies for a career change resume that gets attention: 1. Research and Align Your Resume to the Target Job Study the job posting. Know the skills, keywords, and needs of the role. Highlight experiences that match. Cut what doesn’t. Speak their language, not yours. If you are moving from being a baker to a project manager, shift industry speak like "delivered cookies for six major events" to something like "planned and delivered 6 projects on time and on budget". 2. Spotlight Transferable Skills Identify the common ground between your past work and the target role. For example, if you are moving from Finance Director to Nonprofit Executive Director, emphasize leadership, fundraising, and stakeholder engagement, not just financial skills. Match their job description needs with your real examples of success. 3. Only Share What the Employer Will Value The top third of your resume is prime real estate—make it count. Create a clear headline that signals your intent. Build a skills section tied directly to the new role. Shape every bullet point to emphasize relevant skills, using a structure like: "Skill: Result/Impact." Bonus Tips: Use a combination resume format: put important skills and achievements first, followed by your work history. Focus less on job titles and more on proving your readiness for the new role.     𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲?  You’re not alone.  Recently I’ve been receiving countless inMails asking for advice on making an industry switch.   A recurring theme caught my attention, so I dug into the data.  1. 𝟳𝟴% 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝟰𝟬 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰.   2. 𝟳𝟳% 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.  The pandemic didn’t just shift routines. It shifted priorities.  But here’s what I hear most often:   “𝘋𝘢𝘯𝘢, 𝘪𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘱𝘰𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 10+ 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺?”  My answer? Yes, it is. And if you’ve successfully pivoted before, you’ve already proven your ability to adapt, learn, and excel in new environments. That’s a message employers want to hear.  Here’s how to approach it:  𝟭. 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀.   What have you mastered that transcends industries?   Leadership, communication, problem-solving - these are gold everywhere.  𝟮. 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.   If you’ve pivoted before, showcase it. Success in new settings proves your adaptability and resilience.  𝟯. 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗮𝗽.   Learn about your target industry.   Take courses, join webinars, or find a mentor to sharpen your knowledge.  𝟰. 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.   Align your CV, LinkedIn, and interview pitch to the industry you’re targeting.   Be clear about the value you bring.  𝟱. 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆.   Connect with professionals in your desired field.   Join groups, attend events, and start meaningful conversations.  𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴: Be crystal clear on your WHY.  I once had a candidate tell me they wanted to pivot because “I live close to your office.”   A career change takes courage and commitment from both sides.     STOP underestimating your "unrelated" skills and experience when you're looking for a new job. When I was in college, I had a bunch of odd jobs including working at UCLA’s Campus Call Center. My main objective was to jump on cold calls and convince high schoolers who got accepted to UCLA to come to the school. I knew I really wanted to work in sports, media and entertainment. And this job at the time didn't make any sense to my career growth, but I had to make some money one way or another to pay the bills because my financial aid only got me so far. But with this job, I didn’t see any route or direction that would lead me to my goals. Up to that point, my only "real" jobs were working at Forever 21 as a summer retail associate, YMCA as a referee, and as an afterschool assistant for an elementary school. So each day I’d dial 100+ of calls for work. Then I’d get home and apply for 100s of jobs for me. And it'd lead to rejection after rejection. I couldn’t figure out what I needed to say or do differently to get noticed by organizations. It wasn’t until I realized my current job wasn't just about me making calls. It was about me using skills like: - Relationship management  - Persuasive communication - Marketing strategies By reframing my experience, I transformed my “unrelated” job into a stepping stone for my career. This mindset shift was what helped me finally land a job at UCLA Athletics in student-athlete recruiting where I was now convincing high school athletes recruited by UCLA to commit to our programs. So keep in mind that every experience you’ve had, no matter how small, may already be the game changer you’ve been looking for. The key is identifying those transferable skills that align with your dream opportunities. That’s because every career shift isn’t just a step forward—it’s also the end of a chapter. You lose familiar routines, your professional identity, even a sense of belonging. We rush toward the next goal, burying our feelings under a pile of "new beginnings." But those unresolved emotions resurface as regret, doubt, or burnout. Here’s how to process career transitions like a pro: 1) Acknowledge the End ↳ Every career chapter deserves closure. Don’t rush past the emotions—acknowledge them. It’s okay to grieve what you’re leaving behind. 2) Extract the Lessons ↳ What did this role teach you about yourself, others, or life? List those lessons—they're the foundation of your next move. 3) Redefine Your Identity ↳ You’re not just your job title. Ask yourself: Who am I without this role? This question is key to discovering who you want to become. 4) Embrace the Uncertainty ↳ Transitions are messy, but uncertainty creates space for growth. Lean into it—it’s where breakthroughs happen. 5) Set a New Vision ↳ What’s your next chapter? Define your new direction, but keep it flexible—you’re evolving. 6) Celebrate the Courage ↳ Career changes aren’t easy. Recognize the bravery it takes to step into the unknown. 7) Build Your Support System ↳ No reinvention happens in isolation. Surround yourself with people who encourage your growth. 8) Take Small Step Forward ↳ You don’t need to have it all figured out. Small, consistent steps build momentum toward your next path.
