Obama has given over 120 media interviews in 8 months, plays golf almost every weekend, has taken several vacations, is spending 2 days in Denmark to lobby for 2016 Olympics – but has only talked to Gen. McChrystal, Afghanistan commander, 1 time in 70 days
Do you see a problem with this?

then why do citizens of Japan pay less for their government run health care than the average American citizen pays for their medical insurance?

I recently just read a lot of blogs and stories about foreigners in Korea, where most og them were experiences from foreign women. And a lot of them told about rapes, sexual assualts and stuff like that, and when they reported it, the police didn’t do anything about it. Which makes me really nervous and scared, since my friend and I are going to Korea this summer. So my questions are: 1) What do Koreans define as foreigners? I myself am Asian (Vietnamese) and my friend is white (Dane), but we are both from Denmark. So is there a bigger chance that she might get assualted than me? Or am I actually a foreigner too, and should be careful? 2) Can anyone tell me if there still is this sort of treatment on foreign women in Korea, since the stories and blogs were from 2006. 3) Should I be paranoid, and scared?
Btw, I do know that I asked this question before, but I’m scared that I won’t get all of my answers. So please help me, since I need it a lot!
LO, and BEHOLD! It turns out that people are lazy! And they will wait as looooooong as possible until going out to find another job.
excerpt…
Denmark has long held the title of the best place on earth to be laid off. With an expensive, generous welfare state, and the world’s most lavish unemployment insurance scheme, virtually no one falls through the cracks upon losing a job.
But the government unveiled an unpleasant surprise in June, when it halved the country’s whopping four-year unemployment benefits period to help mend its finances after the financial crisis.
The reason: Danish studies show that the longer a person goes without a job, the harder it is to find work. Many people get a job within the first three months of entering the system, but many more wait until just before benefits expire to take anything available.
“So you need to have a period of unemployment that is as short as possible,” Claus Hjort Frederiksen, the finance minister, told me recently in Copenhagen.

So, let’s quickly correct this idiot by barely listing socialist nation innovations in biotechnology [socialist nations wherein primary organizational missions are “to benefit society” (with “to earn profit” lowly subordinated)]…
“(…the US) did not come out on top for all five benchmarks: intellectual property, enterprise support, the intensity of a country’s biotech activities, education/workforce, and infrastructure.
– Finland, Israel, Singapore, and Sweden came out on top in terms of the infrastructure available for biotechs.
– Singapore and Switzerland scored better than the US when it came to education/workforce.
– Iceland ranked highest on the “intensity” score, which measured the intensity — public companies per capita, portion of overall R&D spending used for biotech, etc. — of a country’s biotech activities.
– Although the US came out on top in intellectual property protections, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, and the UK weren’t too far behind. The small country of Denmark, however, leads the world in the number of biotech patents per member of the population.”

I’m making a new blog. I’m from Denmark, and I can’t decide if I want to do this in English or Danish.
Also I think it would be fun to know some answers to this question. Would you like the international blogs more? or less?

Hello – A year and a half ago I got married to my long-term not to mention long-distance Canadian boyfriend – this meant that we’d be able to shag up together in Vancouver, Canada at some point. It took a while to get my permanent residence, but I finally got it in September (2011).
Two days before I received the residence papers, I got a brilliant job – so I decided to stay (in Denmark, where I’m from) for a little while, in order to save up some money and get more work experience. I ended up LOVING my job. I hold a couple of MAs and most of my education I got in London, UK, so working and having a career is important to me…
Anyways… now I am not sure I want to leave Denmark – and this is not just due to having a great job – it is mainly because I have been doing a bunch of online research on Vancouver and it seems that people living there are very dissatisfied with their lives – especially immigrants – no matter where they’re from.
I google random things like ‘the job situation in Vancouver’ and I find really depressing articles and blogs about people who have moved there and want to go back to where they came from, because they can’t get a job, they think Canadians are unfriendly, it’s always raining, it’s too cold etc. etc.
I have obviously been to Vancouver before and it has always been great, but then I was there on holidays and I always had the comfort of knowing I was going back to Denmark. But can someone please say something positive about living in Canada – will my English/Danish education be recognized? Met my husband when he was an exchange student from UBC at Copenhagen University so that should be alright, but I have read that even Brits’ education isn’t always recognized in Canada. Will my job experience even matter? Are people really that unfriendly? Will I have to wait on tables or scrub toilets for the rest of my life? Although it won’t be for the rest of my life, coz I’m not staying if that’s the case.
All the negative articles I have read seem to say that unless you know someone in Vancouver and until you have Canadian experience you won’t get a job – you’ll be screwed. (How does one get Canadian experience if people won’t hire you?)
I already know Vancouver is very beautiful. It’s a tough choice – I love my husband and we’ve been waiting for this for ages, but you can’t live on love alone and he has a crappy job.
Can someone please tell me it’s all good???
Thanks for your answers – I’d love something more substantial though – but good to know that English degrees are recognized and rain is ok some of the time 🙂
Thanks for all of your answers – I am on level one in this Yahoo answering stuff, so I can’t rate any of it. The degrees that I “claim” to have are in Media Studies and Journalism and I have mainly worked within marketing. I have been to Vancouver 11 times already – I feel like Vancouver airport is my second home… The people I have met have all been nice. I had kind of hoped that someone could make up my mind for me – but I guess I’m going to have to do that myself 🙂

Hello! 🙂
I’m going to start a new life in Denmark, I do know much about the country, so could you help me?
Firstly, I’m going to stay there for few months at least (from 07.2009 to 12.2009 or longer) , and I’m going to work & travel and probably study in Copenhagen from 2010 🙂
I have a few problems at this moment:
– where to stay (cheaply!) before I find a flat/room to rent?,
– is it possible to work before getting CPR number/yellow card? I’ve heard making CPR takes about 3-4 weeks – a month without work? I guess before applying for CPR I have to take papers from registration office?
– is it very hard to find any job if I don’t know Danish language (by the way – I’m going to learn this language, that’s why I’m moving in the first place) for 20 year old guy, rather inexperienced? I mean REALLY ANY job, even McDonald’s/KFC will be ok for me in the beginning,
– write anything helpful/useful in Copenhagen, I coudn’t find good Copenhagen blogs for foreigners etc.
Thank You very much!
Michael 🙂

I’m looking into going abroad for 1 year next fall. (2013-2014)
I’m most likely going to side with AFS and now I just want to think over what countries I am most taken with. My mom insists I go to Europe so Europe it is. We narrowed it down to these:
-Belgium
-Italy
-Switzerland
Well to be honest, she narrowed it down to those but I’d like to keep my options open. I’m personally considering; Denmark, Finland, Germany, Norway, and Sweden.
So could you recommend any of those countries and provide details as to why they are better than the rest?
My mom wants me to have a demanding education so she keeps throwing Switzerland in my face, I on the other hand want more time to explore the country and its culture than have my face stuck in textbooks all day.
As for weather, I prefer somewhere cooler, both in summer and winter. I can’t really stand hot weather like here in the US, but I love snow.
Also, about the language, I want something that is a bit easier to pick up on. I’m currently fluent in English and Russian(I was born there and lived there for years), and now want to add a third language.
Slowly but surely, I think I’m ticking off some countries already based on what I said above but another thing to consider; I don’t like places where I have to dress conservatively. I’m not saying I’m ready to go out in skimpy outfits around town, but I detest wearing jeans and most of my wardrobe consists of dresses and skirts. In cold weather, I will wear whatever necessary.
So if you could please point me in the right direction, I’d be really happy. I’ve been reading tons of blogs on a bunch of countries and they all seem great and like they have something to offer but now I just need a tiny push towards something.
I am 16 and and live in England and everyone dresses the same here (Topman…basically) and I wanted to find some other clothes.
